Michael Alan Oeth, 66, died June 4, 2025, at his home. Mike had courageously battled bile duct and pancreatic cancer since the beginning of 2025. He was born April 2, 1959, to Vernon “Butch” Oeth and Betty Jane Oeth who preceded him in death.
Mike retired from GE/Sabic as a chemical lab technician in 2019 after 34 years of service. In 2021, he began working as a crossing guard at Tekoppel school. He thoroughly enjoyed interacting with students and staff while ensuring their safety crossing the street.
He had been a member of the Turning Pointe U.M. Church. He volunteered with the youth group and chaperoned several youth mission trips where he gained the nickname “Mr. Awesome”. Known for Dad jokes, he served as a Sunday morning greeter for many years where he enjoyed “picking on” people to make them smile. In recent years, he delighted in playing Santa Claus at local functions.
He routinely enjoyed water workouts at the YMCA and solving logic puzzles. He followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and IU and USI basketball. Golfing was also a hobby and he was proud to have made a hole-in-one both at Fendrich and Howell Par 3 golf courses.
Survivors include Mike’s wife of 40 years, Kathleen Oeth; daughter Allison Oeth, both of Evansville, and son, Clayton Oeth, of Chicago. He is also survived by sisters, Orena “Chris” Branson (Bob), of Wadesville; Sherry Elder (Sam); brother, Vernon John Oeth Jr.; Mother-in-law, Doris Kuebler (Dave Morris); sisters-in-law, Jennifer Ackerman and Elizabeth Elpers (Brad), all of Evansville; and two generations of beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jerry Kuebler.
Memorial contributions may be made to Turning Pointe Church youth mission fund, Habitat for Humanity, United Caring Services or a favorite children’s charity.
