Obituary of Mildred I Stringer Vincent
Mildred Imogene (Stringer) Vincent, 89, of Evansville, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011, at the Deaconess Hospital. Mildred was born January 12, 1922, in Versailles, Missouri to Nathan Edwin and Martha Jane (Woods) Stringer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid bird-watcher and participated in the annual Audubon Society bird count in Vanderburgh County. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting, and for many years was a judge at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Fair. Mildred’s early education was in a one-room schoolhouse in Morgan County, MO, where she completed her studies three years early. She was 11-years-old when she entered Versailles High School, and 15 when she graduated in 1937. She was an avid reader and a life-long learner. She was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Newburgh. She taught Sunday School classes at the former 12th Avenue General Baptist Church (now Westwood General Baptist Church). She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl “Bud” Vincent, on June 15, 1985. They were married April 8, 1942, in Versailles. MO. She is survived by three sons, Terry (Marie), Ted and Carl Kim (Carol) Vincent and a daughter, Valdeana (Jay) Vincent-Burrell; three grandsons, Joshua Vincent, Nathan Burrell, and Kevin Burrell; and a granddaughter, Trelease Vincent. Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Alexander North Chapel, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 12:00-Noon until service time at the funeral home.
