

Nester L. Heerdink, 85, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010, at North Park Nursing Center, after a long battle from a stroke and dementia. He was born August 11, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana.
Nester retired from G.E. Service Shop on Congress Avenue in 1987.
He was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ; was a WWII veteran in the US Navy Seabees; and a life member of VFW Post #1114.
Nester loved electronics, carpentry, volunteering at church, and helping family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Julia Heerdink; brothers, Delbert (Marlene) Heerdink, George (Etta) Heerdink, and Elmer (Mildred) Heerdink; and nephew, Ronald Heerdink.
Nester is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertha (Taylor); son, David L. Heerdink (Susan); daughter, Deborah A. Dame (Scot); grandchildren, Kristen Watson (Brian), Joseph Heerdink (Julie), Rachel Zachary (Blake), Lindie Woosley and Ashton Dame; four great grandchildren; twin brother, Norman Heerdink (Margie); and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at North Park Nursing Center and Heritage Hospice for their care.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 6400 Oak Hill Road, officiated by Rev. Rocky Scheneman; with burial to follow with military rites in the church cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
