Obituary of Norman Davenport
Norman K. Davenport, 72, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at his home. He was born February 13, 1946 in Evansville to the late Aaron and Ada Mae (Langham) Davenport. He was a 1964 graduate of Rex Mundi and obtained a bachelor’s degree from ISUE. He was a Vietnam era Navy veteran who served on the USS Tatnall and the USS Carpenter, which was a secondary recovery ship for the space program. Norman worked for AT & T for 30 ½ years. While there, he was involved with the communications set up when President Ronald Reagan visited Evansville in 1986. After retirement, he was a personal trainer at the YMCA and volunteered at several places. He regularly attended Blue Grass United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, scoring several holes in one and in his late 60’s was able to score lower than his age. Norman was a country line dancer, runner and enjoyed going to the movies. His family was the most important thing to him. Norman was preceded in death by granddaughter, Marissa Pierson, and sister, Minnie Lee Garrity. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Girten) Davenport; daughter, Kristine A. Adams (Larry); son, Frank E. Davenport (Amy); daughter, Marna A. Long (Matthew); grandchildren, Blake Steagall (Lee), Trevor Long, Jabin Adams, Jacob Long, Dalton Adams, Caleb Long, Makenzey Pierson and Kenley Davenport and siblings, Kenny, Donald, Harold and Karen Davenport, Janice Fowler, Rita Wade, Judy Catlin and Helen Hart. Visitation is 3:00 to 8:00PM, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road. The Funeral will be 3:00PM, with a visitation beginning at 2:00PM, Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Blue Grass United Methodist Church, Main Campus, 14200 Petersburg Road, officiated by Rev. Doug Heiman and Rev. Reno DeMuth. Graveside veteran service will be 1:00PM, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Alexander Memorial Park.
