Phoebe Kirves Carpio was born in Ventura California on July 18, 2007. She peacefully passed away in her mother’s arms while her father placed tender kisses over her face, June 27, 2012 at the Columbia Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, surrounded by family and friends. She was four years old.
Phoebe faced a cancer diagnosis of stage 4 neuroblastoma, July 2011. She fought a valiant battle at The St. Louis Children’s Hospital and The Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia. Never complaining, Phoebe looked forward to her visits, loving the playrooms. Quick to smile and loving, she drew many a staff member to play. Pretending to cook and make cupcakes were great practice for her as she thought she might like to have become a chef. She loved cooking shows and anything pink. Dresses, make up, hats, and shoes were fun for her.
Scary movies were a passion for Phoebe and she often felt her favorite stars were truly her boyfriends. There never was a bigger Twilight fan than Phoebe. Deciding between Edward and Jacob was a very difficult decision and was subject to change.
Many benefactors were angels to Phoebe. Some sent packages or provided for the family’s needs during her illness. She enjoyed her first Cardinal’s game and became an instant fan. Some benefactors she never had the pleasure of personally meeting. Always surprised and grateful, Phoebe never had any expectations for gifts or opportunities.
Phoebe is survived by her parents, Army Specialist Steven Carpio and Jessica Carpio; grandparents, Pepito (Lolo) Carpio of Oxnard, CA, Jeff (Pa) and Linda (Nana) Niemeier of Evansville; uncles, Michael Carpio and Zachary Niemeier; aunts, Amy (Tom) Wright, Jody (Tony) Aylsworth, and Megan (Will) Coleman; and many cousins and friends will miss dear little Phoebe.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Doug Heiman with burial at Blue Grass UMC Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time.
The family would like to express thanks to the two hospitals and many staff members and doctors who treated her and became their friends.
