Phyllis Ann Hudnall, 92, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was born on April 13, 1933, in New Harmony, IN, to the late Cavette Carson and Hilda Selma (Tron) Fisher.
Phyllis was a vibrant and joyful soul who lived life with a giving heart. Many people called her an angel—for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering generosity. She could laugh and find humor in just about anything. She was an avid gardener who loved growing flowers and vegetables, a skilled knitter and seamstress, and a spirited singer whose laughter and happiness were contagious. She especially cherished swimming at the Old Dam in New Harmony, where she was raised.
She was a devoted member of West Side Church of Christ since the age of 18, the same year she married the love of her life, Otto Hudnall. They met and married within six weeks—a beautiful love story that lasted 58 years.
Phyllis had a special bond with her grandchildren, often taking them blueberry picking, and she found joy in rearranging furniture when she was in good spirits. Her love language was giving—whether it was her time, her heart, or the cozy creations she knitted for others. She graduated from New Harmony High School in 1951 with honors and even sang on the radio—though, as family lore has it, that might be a legend.
Phyllis is survived by her children: David (Nancy) Hudnall, Jeffrey (Jen) Hudnall, and Ann Kay (David) Gauer; her grandchildren: April (Brad) Jacobs, Michael Gauer (Amy Huff), Matt Hudnall, Chad Hudnall, Jill Hudnall-Jones, Allison (Robert) Berger, Nathan (Macey) Tillotson, Paul (Jamie) Tillotson, Sarah (Nefty) Padilla and Princess Shane Siong Hudnall; 20 beloved great-grandchildren, Josilynn, Lauren, Kristen, Kenzie, Daytona, Ky, Kristin, Riley, Kaylee, Wade, Juliette, Miriam, Johanna, Peter, Noah, Adron, Houston, Cade, Kyla, Cruz; sister, Judy Mossberger; sisters-in-law, Georgia Persinger and Juanita Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Marshall Hudnall; and her brothers, Harold and Dennis Fisher and most recently her brother Jack Fisher.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., officiated by the
Church of Christ Minister, Larry Albritton, followed by entombment at Alexander Memorial Park.
