Ruth was a proud graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and furthered her education by obtaining a gerontology certificate from the University of Evansville. Her professional life spanned over many years, during which she dedicated her talents to Buycyrus-Erie and later to over 30 years in administration at Deaconess Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Euyle Lee Fondaw and Nellie Pearl (Keel) Fondaw. Ruth is survived by her sister, Ilene (Fondaw) Deig and the late Erwin Deig; her nephews, Gary, Glenn, and Galen; her niece, Terri (Deig) Korff; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Ruth was a woman of diverse passions. She was a dedicated Master Gardener, finding joy and solace in cultivating beauty and growing plants and flowers for her hummingbirds. Ruth loved to exercise, especially brisk walks around the neighborhood. Her intellectual curiosity was evident in her love for reading and studying the Bible, as well as many other "deep reads" where she meticulously took notes and kept records. A true treasure hunter, Ruth enjoyed collecting "Made in Occupied Japan" items and discovering unique finds at thrift shops.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Deaconess Hospital Gateway, specifically Dr. Jay Bhavsar and supporting staff and the Linda White Hospice Center for their compassionate care, including a personal visit from her dear friend, Linda White. Special thanks are also given to her lifelong friends, Kathleen Exline, Rori Spray, and Kathy Clodfelter, and her nephew and niece Glenn and Mary Deig for their unwavering support and guidance during Ruth's final days.
There will be no services. No flowers, plants, or donations. Entombment will take place at Alexander Memorial Park in Evansville, Indiana.
