Ruth Ellen (Campbell) Stevens, 95, of Evansville, joyfully entered the arms of her Heavenly Father Wednesday, March 29, 2017. She was born September 10, 1921, in Tell City, IN, to the late Forrest and Bertha (Boling) Campbell.
Affectionately known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren, she was a kind, gentle, loving mother and grandmother, always offering encouragement and support. Her greatest pleasure was her little great-grandchildren, who were the gems that brought sparkle and light to her golden years. In 2007, Ruth retired after 46 years as an Avon Representative. She was a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church for 59 years, where she taught Sunday school for ten years. She also served as a Brownie troop leader and Cub Scout Den Mother.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene Stevens, in 1987; daughter, Darla Cobb in 2005; six sisters; and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Steven Stevens and his wife, Debbie; daughter, Susan Ruggier and her husband, Joe; son-in-law, Richard Cobb, all of Evansville; grandchildren, Cindy (Mike) Freeman, David (Rhonda) Cobb, Brett (Julie) Stevens, Amy (Chris) Dingman, Ashley (Jesse) Hulsey, and Lauren Ruggier (fiancé, Nick Joest); great-grandchildren, Brandon McCrarey, Tiffany Mitchell, Austin Dingman, Elliott Stevens, Henry Hulsey, and Taylor Joest; and one great-great-grandchild, Shanoa McCrarey.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, April 3, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Randy Owens, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Ruth’s final wish was to thank her Fairlawn Church family for their love and support through life’s sorrows and celebrations; to thank her special friends, Hilda, Joan, Ginny, Jean, Gladys, and Juanita for the joy and laughter they shared; and finally with a grateful loving heart she thanks her children, their spouses, and her niece, Barbara, for their love, care, and support that allowed her to live in her home until her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairlawn United Methodist Church, 2001 South Parker Drive, Evansville, IN 47714. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
