He was an avid baseball player.
Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Patty (Croft) Bates, his parents; special aunt, Helen “Ahmy” Bates; and grandparents, Wesley Earl and Florence Bates.
He is survived by his sisters, Peggy Simmons of Evansville, Joanne Bates and Mary Houchin both of Princeton; brothers, Charles Metz, Bill Bates, and Rob Bates all of Evansville and Tom Bates (Brandy) of Princeton; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
