

Scott Thompson, 92, formerly of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016. He last resided at Hoosier Village in Indianapolis, IN. He was born May 9, 1924, in Warrick County, IN to the late Harvey E. and Vandilla (Morris) Thompson.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, rising to the rank of Corporal. Scott participated in the Army Specialized Training Program at the University of Alabama and then served in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. Along with many others from his regiment, he was a prisoner of war in Germany from December 1944 until April 1945. The Army discharged him honorably in December 1945.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Evansville College (now the University of Evansville) and a Master’s degree from Indiana University. For most of his career he taught seventh and eighth grade social studies at Harwood School in Evansville, retiring in 1989. Scott belonged to the Methodist Temple, the Evansville Retired Teachers Association, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He was also a lifelong member of NEA. For many years, he was an active member of Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church (now closed), where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder.
Scott’s wife of 53 years, Patricia Joan Thompson, passed away on September 6, 2016. Scott’s parents and nine siblings also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jane Ann and Scott D. Himsel of Indianapolis; numerous nieces and nephews; and a few cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2016, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Andy Payton, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
