Our beloved Sharon Elizabeth Matthews passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Evansville, Indiana. She was 76 years old. Sharon was born in Evansville, Indiana, on March 2, 1946, to the late Manson E. Frick and Mary Isla (Berry) Frick.
Sharon was a proud 1964 graduate from “OLD” Central High School and continued to show that pride by helping on numerous class reunions over the years. After graduation she worked as a switchboard operator at Indiana Bell Telephone and later became an engineering assistant for Ameritech and AT&T. While traveling abroad in the early 70’s she met her husband Christopher in London, England. They were married for 51 years. After retiring from AT&T she then worked as a PBX operator for Casino Aztar.
Sharon was always described as a sweet, loving, and caring person but her true character could be summed up in one word: selfless. Sharon was a remarkable baker. She is best known for her multiple sweets but mostly for her chocolate chip cookies which would ultimately be delivered to family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. She baked her famous chocolate chip cookies for several local organizations such as Deaconess Hospital, Saint Vincent Hospital, Easter Seals, Good Shepherd Catholic School, Memorial High School, Scott, OakHill, and McCutchanville School’s Staff, Lochmueller Group, Evansville Police Department, and her sweet Neighbors…She baked cookies and cupcakes for Catchin’ with Capin, an organization that holds annual fishing trips for multiple special needs classes in EVSC. She also helped to donate personalized books to students of Culver School from The Pioneers of America and donated yearly Christmas Presents as well. She volunteered at Blue Grass Church through Samaritan's Purse for the Feed My Starving Children Food Packing Event. She was a member of Indiana Bell Pioneers of America. She had several dear friends. She met her best friend, Donna Stewart, over fifty years ago. Sharon found so much joy by continuing to have lunch with the mothers of the 1991 boys Memorial Soccer team.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Christopher Matthews from Corbridge, England; brother & sister-in-law Bill & Debbie Frick, her son & daughter-in-law John Jeremy & Mindy Matthews, and beloved grandchildren Cory Thomas Matthews, Graham Nigel Matthews, and Marcy Elizabeth Matthews.
