Shirley Ann Means

Shirley Ann (Canull) Means, 86, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at home with hospice care and her daughter, Cheri by her side. She was born in Fairfield, Illinois on October 25, 1936 to Jacob Solomon and Lois Ester (Eckleberry) Canull. On June 6, 1954, Shirley married Charles June Means. They had two children, Cheryl Kay (Means) Carter and Terry Glen Means. Shirley will meet Charles, Terry, and her parents in heaven.

Shirley loved spending time in her yard, playing with grandkids, and finding bargains. She enjoyed working with the public, working at UE for 20+ years and then 29 years at Walmart as a cashier, door greeter, and in the bakery.

She leaves behind daughter Cheryl Kay (Means) Carter; grandkids, Chad Allen Carter (Amber), Brandy Lee Nelson (Carter), Shawn Michael Carter and all their friends; great-grandkids, Jacob Allen Carter, Kenya Brown (Ernesto Gonzalez), Dustin Glenn Nelson, Patrick Eugene Nelson, Samantha Kay Nelson, and Aaron Joseph Carter; great-great-grandkids, Acelyn Grey and twin, Arabelle Rose Nelson; aunts, Sally, Dorothy, and Janice and all of their kids; sister-in-law, Charlene Steadman of Norman, Oklahoma; nephews, Tim Means and Jearl Steadman and her niece, Jeanette Steadman and their families; special friend, Libby Robertson; and tons of cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Alexander East Chapel with Chaplain Lee Hicks officiating. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
