Violet grew up on a farm in Warrick County. She completed the family of four, having one older sister, Bessie.
She met the love of her life on a school bus one morning on the way to school. She learned later that Bill Flowers had set his future plans on her after that first meeting.
Following her high school spring graduation, William Vernon Flowers and Violet Venice Goerges were married on December 13, 1941.
Oh, what a ride! She quietly followed William through all his up and down adventures. It was a good life and she enjoyed the good times and weathered the storms of her life in her sweet, quiet way.
In 1955, William surrendered to the ministry and Violet was God’s faithful servant as the pastor’s wife until his death in October 2009. She worked and taught in every area of the church from janitor to teacher but her heart was in leading the children. Her deep and caring love for children was spilled over and showered onto her own four children and especially her 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, thru most of her married life she worked at least part time jobs to supplement the family income. She worked at the GE plant in Tell City, catching a bus at 5:30 AM to get to work, later HA woods Drug Stores, and final JC Penny’s for 40 years retiring at age 80.
This is just a snippet of information about a wonderful person whose goals never included any fame or fortune but a total commitment to family and a rock solid faith in God. What a legacy of faithfulness and love she leaves for us to cherish.
As Paul said in II Timothy 4:7-8; “I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith.” Considering the road she has traveled this past six years, she has certainly fought her life’s battles with grace and perseverance.
A special thanks to Maxim Healthcare and her loving caregivers, Ingrid Haas, Robin Crawley, and Esther Englehardt.
