Virginia Lee Hudson “Ginny- Ginger”, 88, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Newburgh Healthcare Center. She was born February 29, 1924, in Whitesville, KY to the late Charles Ramsey and Lena Bristow. Virginia and her family moved to Evansville when she was a few months old.
Ginny graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and was a 1941 Reitz High School graduate. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ. She met her husband, Gene, while working at Smith & Butterfield together. Gene left for England during WWII in 1942. He told everyone, “I’m going to marry this beautiful girl.” Ginny loved his wink and whistle. When Gene returned from England in November 1945 they made plans and were married on January 31, 1946. Gene and Ginny had 60 years together before Gene passed in 2006. They loved to dance together and Ginny always drove the golf cart while Gene played unless he insisted they walk. Ginny always cheered him on either way.
She was always smiling and pleasant and forever close to her daughter, supporting her and loving her as only she could do in that special way. Happiness again came to Ginny through a wonderful blessing, the birth of her granddaughter, Abby Kristine, in 1986.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lena Bristow; brothers, Kenneth and Ramsey Bristow; and husband, Gene Hudson.
Ginny is survived by her daughter, Susan Kay Gordon and her husband, Gregory Gordon; granddaughter, Abby Kristine Lee-Gordon; sister, Betty Singer; sister-in-law, Billie Bristow; nieces and nephews. Thanks be to God for Ginny and all the blessings she has brought so many.
The family would like the Newburgh Health Care staff to know how very much they appreciate their excellent care the last three years and VNA Hospice nurse, Mary Ann.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Bethel United Church of Christ, 3029 North Green River Road, Evansville, officiated by Rev. Don Bernhardt and Rev. Carlos Haskins, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Cahapel and Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, PO Box 1, Evansville, IN 47701.
