

He attended Evansville College and graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis in 1948. He retired from the practice of dentistry in 1996 after 48 years, including two years in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. He was founder and president of Sonitrol of Evansville. In 1964 he served as Potentate of Hadi Shrine, where he was Acts Chairman for the Shrine Circus for 35 years. He was instrumental in bringing a star attraction to the circus for 25 years. He was a member of the Hadi Oriental Band and the Hadi Highlanders. He played bagpipes for many area funerals. He was a member of the York Rite and belonged to the Scottish Rite and was a 33rd Degree Mason. He joined the Masonic Lodge at age 18 in Albion, IL and was a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge of Evansville. He was a member of the Sword of Bunker Hill, a past director and impresario of the Royal Order of Jesters, a member of the 34th Select Group, and the Evansville Country Club. He was also a past president of the Evansville Boys and Girls Club, where he received the Boys Club Medallion.
Dr. Standring is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Standring in 2006.
He is survived by son, Mark (Siobhan) Standring; daughter, Sharon (Hank) Lewis; grandchildren; Sam (Mollie) Standring, Coleen (Yen) Ho, and Sarah (Charles) Mereday ; great-grandchildren, Chole, Sabrina, Audrey, Kiley, and Lane and Coale (twin boys born on his birthday).
Funeral Services will be10:00AM Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mitch Stichler, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. There will be a Shrine walk through at 5:00 PM and Lessing Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 5:30PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
