Alan S. Harris August 11, 1933-April 12, 2016 Alan S. Harris peacefully passed away with his family by his side on April 12, 2016 at the age of 82. He was born August 11, 1933 in Daytona Beach, Florida. "Buddy" developed his love for the outdoors as a child, as he was an avid snake catcher and loved riding his bike to the beach to play in the waves. He was a standout student at Mainland High School, earning distinctions with both the National Honor Society and the Thespians Club. Following graduation, Al enlisted in the United States Navy, and proudly served his country in the Korean War. Following the War, he was assigned and stationed to Sandpoint NAS, where he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Marie Anderson, in 1954. The newlyweds soon moved north to Everett, which would become their home. Al was a hard-working employee at Scott Paper Company for 40 years, and spent his "retirement" working as a maintenance technician for the Inn at Port Gardner for 20 years. Al worked with joy on his immaculate yard, and took much pride in maintaining his backyard oasis, which included the most spectacular fish pond in the neighborhood. While he loved his home in North Everett, he often yearned for the warm climate of his youth, and made annual vacation journeys with Patty to the beaches of Hawaii and Florida. He was an unapologetic Mariners fan, watching games religiously with Patty every night from April through September. Most importantly, Al was a devoted and loving husband, a kind and caring father and grandfather, and a humble and generous individual to all he knew. Al instilled the importance and value of family, and his family was the center of his life. Al is survived by his loving wife, Patty, of 62 years; his children, Alan Harris (Diane), Cindy Harris (Michael), Larry Harris (Theresa); grand-children, Bobby Thompson (Mariko), Jeannie Boyer (Joel), Orlando Sullivan, Nick Harris, Stefan Harris, and Britt Harris (Malte); and his great-grandchildren, Lilli, Lanie, and Avery Thompson, Presley Harris, and Carson Boyer. Al will also be missed dearly by his brother-in-law, Lyman Armey; his nieces Denise Siler (Mike), Celeste Pope (Rodney), Christine Cobb (Dave), and their children Matthew (Bianca), Whitney, Patrick, Celynne, Luke, Arlie, Vince, Carter, and Dawson. Al was blessed by many special friendships and will be missed by Bob and Saundra Westvang, Leon and Jeannette VanRossen, Bob and Ona Joyce, and Mary Vee Westlund. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorthy Harris; sister, Helen Powers; and sister-in-law, Linda Armey. A service celebrating his life will be led by Pastor Rollin Carlson on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Bethany Christian Assembly (2715 Everett Ave) at 11:00am. Prior to the service there will be a viewing from 9:30-10:30am, also at Bethany Christian Assembly. A special thank you to the nursing staff at Providence Medical Center, Colby Campus, for the loving care you provided for Al during his final days.
Arrangements under the direction of Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett, WA.
