Brett served in the US Navy, completing Navy Seal Training and seeing multiple tours to the Persian Gulf region. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Brett spent 15 years in the Finance and Banking industry, and earned his MBA from California Coast University in 2009. He was a board member of the Lynnwood Parks and Recreation Department, a reading buddy at Spruce Elementary in Lynnwood, and a founding member of Christ the King Shine Church in Everett, WA.
Brett was a fisherman, reader, writer, musician, artist, and an avid wine connoisseur, always searching for the quintessential perfect red wine. He married the love of his life and best friend, Alina (Yakubova) on November 5, 2005. He is survived by Alina and their three children: Ramil, Madison, and David; father Bruce Woken of Oregon; siblings Peter Woken of Texas, Matt Woken of Oregon, Lisa Cline Asay of Colorado, and Diana Alvarado of California, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Koenig, and mother-in- law, Ludmilla Yakubova.
Brett was a godly man with a strong Christian faith, whose love for his family was topped only by his love for the Lord Jesus. He had a great sense of humor with the consummate twinkle in his eye, and truly loved everyone he met. He was a man at peace, thoroughly content with his life, his family, and his best friend – his wife, Alina.
A memorial service of Brett’s life will be held Saturday, December 4 at 1:30 pm at Mill Creek Four Square Church, 1415 164th St SW, Lynnwood, WA, with a pre-service viewing at the church from 11am – 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the memorial account for the family being set up at Wells Fargo Bank (email mariposa.tiffanyrose@ comcast.net for details). Arrangements are being handled by Evergreen Funeral Home in Everett.
