Jayne Carol Brown Johnson was born January 5, 1957 in Chicago, IL to the Milas Buel Brown, Sr. and Vera Jean Brown (neé McDowell). Jayne grew up on the south side of Chicago. Forever excelling in the classroom, she attended Chicago Vocational High School. After a highly selective process, she was chosen to further her high school education at Jones Commercial High School. Jayne graduated from Jones with honors, however, she was turned down for admission to Loyola University Chicago. Thus, she preceded to write a formal letter of her achievements and aspirations to the Dean of Admissions. Triumphantly, she was accepted and graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelor degree in criminal justice.
Hard-working and ambitious, she worked several jobs in business before becoming a mom to her first and only child, son Kerry David Brown, affectionately known as “Bory” whom she loved to no end. In 1987, she graduated from the police academy and joined the Chicago Police Department, serving with distinction for 21 years. While employed, she met Arthur Johnson, her partner on-the-job as well as personally for 21 years.
Jayne was an avid book reader and animal lover. She loved the internet, the Chicago Cubs baseball team, and the Harry Potter series. She loved the Harry Potter series so much that she even wrote the author and took a trip overseas to England and Scotland to fellowship with other fans and even met the author, getting behind the scenes questions answered. This was truly a joy to her.
Always generous and of good cheer, she would help anyone with her last. Warm, loving and fair, she dazzled many people with her charm. Having a great sense of humor, she loved comedies, laughing and joking and she was virtuous and fair to a tee. To her family, she was a “G.I. Jayne.” Always courageous, strong and beautiful, she had a heart of gold.
After many courageous years of battling illness, she suffers no more. Jayne Carol Brown Johnson transitioned home on March 31, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Kerry David. She sincerely loved her family with all her heart and will truly be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers Kerry Rodney Brown (Sandra) of Bloomington, IL, Milas Buel Brown, Jr. of Chicago, IL, sister Gail Elizabeth Whisby (Carl) of Chicago, IL, nephews Philip Michael Brown (Arika), Milas “Trey” Buel Brown III, Dwayne Lavelle Ellison, nieces Kaye Rodney Winks (Alex), Dawana Sherese Humphrey (Jeff), Monique McField, Aunt Annie McDowell, cousin Anissa Denise McDowell, great nephews Caleb Michael Brown, Kendall Philip Brown, Kerry Kardan Brown, goddaughter Tyci Tywan Adams, and a beloved host of extended family, and friends.
