Kenneth Melvin Rucker was born on July 11, 1942 to Father, Robert G. Rucker and Mother, Dorothy Weatherford. Kenneth aka Ken, aka Kenny grew up on the South Side of Chicago where he attended Ruggles Elementary School. Ken grew up as an only child, but making friends easily was one of his many great qualities.
Ken enlisted in the Air Force with three of his closest friends, George, Randy and Bobby, of which Bobby is the only one of the three that preceded Ken in life. The four men went on to serve in the Vietnam War.
After returning from Vietnam, Ken spent the next few years working at the Chicago Police Department and then later sold Life insurance for Prudential. He opened a full line pet store in the Roseland neighborhood and named it Afro Aquatics and Pet Supply and enjoyed that success for over thirty years.
Ken left us on March 19th, 2019. He is survived by his loving family, son Kenny, daughter in law Beverly, grandchildren Jasmine, Jarrin, Cameron and Jaden, a host of cousins, especially his cousin Roger Bradley, the Buffalo Troopers, the Markham Skaters, Afro Aquatics patrons and friends.
A Celebration of Life memorial service is scheduled to for Saturday, April 27th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Matteson, located at 500 Holiday Plaza, Matteson, IL 60443.
