On July 16, 1976 was the birth of a great leader Torrence (Torry) Dortch in Chicago, Illinois. Being his mother’s, Addie Dortch’s youngest child; he was born into a loving household with nieces and nephews that were like his siblings.
He was a happy child who loved helping and being around others. Growing up he was very close to his nephew Kris Dortch and niece Tinika Carey; the three were inseparable.
Torry attended St. Dorothy elementary school. He graced the halls of De La Salle High School and graduated from Corliss High School. Torry received certification as an auto-body technician from Lincoln Technical Institute.
Torry was well known around the London Town community. He had a passion for cars and let us not forget his love and affection for training his dogs. He was an entrepreneur with his own clothing line “PLRK” (Poor Little Rich Kids).
Torry took pride in his role as a father. Whatever his children wanted – his response would be
“I got you”!
He was known best for “holding court” in the community as he shared deep stories and spiritual insight. He mentored the young men and women of the community and made certain the women and young ladies felt safe. He would lend his positive testament to a neighborhood that was constantly changing. Torry was given generational strength from his family which allowed him to transfer that strength and love to the community and future generations. It is because of his leadership role in guiding the young men and women in the community that lead to him being crowned the “Lord of London”.
On January 25, 2016, Torry’s spirit left his earthly body.
Torry leaves his legacy to live on in the hearts of his lifelong partner Auvril Watson, son Auri Langston Dortch, stepdaughter April Austin, mother Addie Dortch, sisters Monalisa and Debra(Joe) Laws, brother Delgreco (Linda-deceased) Dortch, special nephew Kris (Sarah) Dortch and special nieces Tinika (Chris) Carey and Jasmine Dortch; other treasured: nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, many cousins, numerous friends and loved ones whom will all cherish his memory.
