Claire Smith Dudley, 73, of Fairfax Station, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, surrounded by her family—including her beloved dogs—as they shared laughter and memories of a life well-lived together.
Family meant more to Claire than anything. Over the years, she created countless cherished memories with those she loved—from skiing trips in the winter to beach vacations in the summer. Claire took particular pride and pleasure in hosting the family for Christmas each year, where her home became the heart of holiday traditions.
Anyone who knew Claire knew about her deep love for animals. Her dogs were her constant companions and loyal jogging buddies as they trekked around Burke Lake nearly every morning. She found peace and joy with her horses at the barn which she considered her second home.
While she may have seemed quiet and reserved to some at first, Claire's friends knew her true spirit—she was intensely caring and loyal and loved to trade stories and laugh with her distinctive cackle that could light up a room. She had a remarkable knack for making friends wherever life took her, with friendships that stretched back more than sixty years.
Claire is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jack; her sons, Courtney and Colin; her daughter-in-laws, Kira and Lindsay; and her granddaughters, Emma, Kinsey, and Lila.
A celebration of Claire's life will be held on November 8th at 1:00 pm at Burke Lake Park, Shelter C. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) https://ocrahope.org/ or the ASPCA https://www.aspca.org/
