Elsie "June" Miller Butler

Elsie “June” Miller Butler of Centreville VA, passed away on November 15, 2022. Known as June in her youth, Elsie was born on July 1, 1934, to the late Frank Pierpont Miller and Elsie Garrigus Miller of Kent, CT.

Elsie graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School and became a secretary for IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1957, Elsie met William “Bill” Butler, an Electrical Engineer from Virginia Tech, through the IBM ski club. Elsie and Bill were married in Poughkeepsie and lived in Orlando, FL and the suburbs of St Louis MO before settling in Centreville VA a decade later. They have two daughters: Elizabeth “Betty” Greene of Centreville and Holly Butler of Christiansburg, VA. They were proud grandparents to William Greene, Centreville, and Laurel Butler Gates of Christiansburg.

Elsie and Bill joined Chantilly National Golf and Country Club when they moved to Northern Virginia in 1967 and Elsie remained a member for 55 years. Elsie was a member of the women’s golf and bowling leagues.

The last 15 years, Elsie was a resident of The Gardens at Fair Oaks.

Elsie is survived by her sister and brother-in-law: Lois and Ralph Stephens of Reno NV; both daughters and grandchildren; and nieces and nephews: David Whitney, Ann Walsh, Joyce Ferrante, Bob Hoffman, Craig Hoffman, Robert Engh, Eric Engh, Cindy Kaiser, Mark Stephens, and Julie Harris. She was predeceased by both her parents; her husband; and four siblings: Mary Whitney, Bertha Hoffman Matranga, Dwight Miller, and Jessie Linicus.

Friends and family may call at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax, VA on Tuesday November 29 at 6 pm. We will share memories and memorialize Elsie from 7 to 8 pm. The memorial session will be broadcast on the Demaine Facebook page for those that cannot attend in person. A link to that page is available on their website under her obituary. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA the following day, November 30, at 1 pm.
