Obituary of Dr. Eric Alan Wolff
One of Vienna’s finest veterinarians has crossed the rainbow bridge. Doctor Eric Alan Wolff who lived in Fairfax, Virginia and worked at the Vienna Animal Hospital left this earth on January 5, 2020, at the age of 44. He was born on June 24, 1975, to Rosemary and Alan Wolff. Eric spent his early years in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and later moved to Groton, Massachusetts where he graduated from high school. He then went to Drew University in New Jersey majoring in Biology with a minor in American History. Eric later moved to Gaithersburg, Maryland and worked at Pet Dominion Animal Hospital, gaining experience with animals as a veterinary technician and anticipating applying to Veterinary School. In 1999, Eric met his future wife, Katherine Hattox, who was also working at Pet Dominion Animal Hospital as a kennel assistant. He attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean and completed his clinical year at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He received his degree as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After graduation he moved to Milan, Ohio where he practiced veterinary medicine at Critter Croft Pet Clinic and married Katherine in 2004. In 2007, Eric and Katherine moved to Vienna, Virginia along with three dogs, five cats, a cockatiel and a snake. He continued his practice of veterinary medicine at the Vienna Animal Hospital where Katherine was also employed as a receptionist. Eric was a much-valued presence at the hospital where his many clients and animal patients loved the care he provided. Eric and Katherine welcomed their beautiful daughter Mirabelle into the world in March of 2017. He loved her more than life itself and spent as much time with her as he could being her wonderful Daddy. Eric enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, hiking, biking and running. He and his family took a vacation to Shenandoah National Park almost every year. He was a voracious reader and spent most of his free time with his nose in books like The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, thrillers, and historical fiction and nonfiction books, especially those about the Civil War. He enjoyed dressing in costume for events like the Renaissance Festival and Halloween. Eric was an avid sports fan who began and ended most days on the ESPN website. His favorite sports were baseball and football and he was a staunch supporter of the Nationals, Red Sox and Patriots. He also appreciated hockey, basketball, Nascar and Australian rules football. He especially loved 80's music, but his taste in music ranged from Classic Rock to Techno. A quiet man, Eric was easy-going and his quick humor made him fun to be around. He had a calming effect on all humans and animals around him both at work and at home. He was an exceedingly kind and tolerant person with a gentle nature. And his life ended way too soon. Eric is survived by his loving wife, Katherine, adoring daughter Mirabelle, parents Rosemary and Alan Wolff, younger brother Ethan Wolff. He will also be dearly missed by his in-laws Diane and Tom Hattox, his faithful dog Odie and three cats Zara, Tevy and Kisu. There will be a memorial gathering held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens beginning at 3:00 PM followed by a celebration of Eric’s life at 4:00 PM. There will be a reception with refreshments directly after the service. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to The Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation or contributing to a college fund for Eric's nearly 3 year old daughter, Mirabelle, through GoFundMe.
