Joseph C. Gurley, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2016. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma on July 22, 1942 to Joseph and Thelma Gurley. Survived by loving wife, Winnie; stepchildren, Matt (Rossy) and Lily (Jim); adoring grandchildren, James, Julia, and Luke; brothers Bill (Janet) and Ron (Brett); nieces and nephews. Though Joe lost the use of his legs from polio at age nine, he went on to live a full and successful life. A graduate of Fairfax High School, he earned a bachelors of mathematics from Virginia Tech and a masters in science from the Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pamela, his parents, and several well loved cairn terriers, particularly Doodle his dear companion for 15 years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Demaine Funeral Home Fairfax at 3 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to Capital Caring Hospice.
