

Born in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, Joseph is survived by his wife, Diana; two children, Bonnie Chalker, O.D. and partner, Ronald B. Kowalczyk, Jr. Esq., Port Orange, Florida; Catherine McCusker and partner, Jonathan Doranz, Derwood, Maryland; three grandchildren, Ian McCusker Yoon, Hannah Chalker, and James Chalker; and sister, Maryanne Woodyatt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Malewich and Anna Seyna; brother, John “Jack” Malewich; and grandson, John Robert Chalker.
Joseph was a graduate of Jessup High School, class of 1963 and The University of Scranton, class of 1967. His professional career spanned over 34 years as an auditor for the Veterans Administration. In his retirement he loved hiking in the Shenandoah mountains and vacationing in Chincoteague, Virginia. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and in the community where he was a member of the neighborhood watch in North Springfield and North Hill Community, where he resided for the past 10 years. Joseph had a warm and caring personality with an infectious laugh. He is loved and missed immeasurably by his family and friends.
In his last selfless act on earth, Joseph was an organ donor, giving the gift of life to many others. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Infinite Legacies. A memorial service will be celebrated in January 2023 at the Demaine Funeral Home, in Fairfax, Virginia.
