Obituary of Joseph Michael Monnin
Joseph (Joe) Michael Monnin, 55, of Fairfax, VA, passed away unexpectedly on May 1, 2021, from undiagnosed cardiovascular disease. Joe was born on May 29, 1965, to Carl and Kathryn (Bereda) Monnin in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Carroll High School, he joined the Army ROTC program and went on to graduate from the University of Dayton with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After college, Joe served in the United States Army Signal Corp., attaining the rank of Captain. While stationed in Georgia, he met and married fellow Army officer, Dawn (Manke) in 1993. They have two daughters Shelby Marie and Keely Michaela. Following his time in the Army, Joe transitioned into the private sector where he built a career as a computer engineer in the Northern Virginia area. Joe attended St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus organization. He enjoyed spending his time volunteering with Feed the Homeless; KOVAR, a Knights of Columbus Virginia-based charity serving citizens with intellectual disabilities; and supporting anyone in need. Joe was predeceased by his father, Carl; his nephew, Charlie; and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Dawn; his daughters, Shelby and Keely; his mother, Kathryn Monnin Bernard; his sisters, Christine (Tim) Connors and Michelle (Doug) Massie; his brother, Daniel (Kelly) Monnin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax, Virginia, on May 14, 2021, with interment at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
