Joseph Philip Woodford

WOODFORD Joseph Philip CDR, USN (Ret.) Of Fairfax, VA, on December 6, 2020, at the age of 73. Beloved husband of 47 years to Consuela Woodford; loving father of Priscilla Woodford, Valerie Shea, and Kyle Woodford; grandfather of Owen Shea and Stella Shea; also survived by siblings Paul Woodford, Philip Woodford, Eileen Woodford, Andrew Woodford, and Monica Luby. A longtime resident of the DC metro area, Joseph was born in Canton, OH and raised in Providence, RI. He was a proud graduate of Brown University and continued his post-graduate studies at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in which he graduated the top of his class. During his time serving in the Navy, he was honored with numerous commendations, medals, and ribbons for his meritorious service. He retired in 1996. Following his retirement, he became the Senior Advisor to the Northern Virginia Association of Rocketry (NOVAAR), and volunteered his time at Oakton, South Lakes, and Thomas Jefferson high schools, contributing his knowledge to their rocketry programs. Commander Woodford will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a later date.
