Obituary of Judy Rose Hawes
Judy Rose Hawes, age 68, passed away at her cherished childhood home in Clifton, Virginia, on June 9, 2018. Judy, the much loved daughter of Eleanor and James Johnson, was born May 6, 1950. She was the second of five children and remained close to her dear parents and siblings both in heart and miles. Judy had the great happiness of growing up in a house filled with love, laughter and determination. Whether playing on the thirteen acres of land that was home, or working alongside her family, Judy did everything with joy and a grateful heart. These qualities stayed a part of her always. In 1968, Judy graduated from W.T. Woodson High School. She began her career with Fairfax County Public Schools as a student in 1967. Her working years were dedicated to the school system first as a secretary and then as a buyer. Judy often joked that as a buyer, she was responsible for the purchase of everything from mealworms for science to mannequin heads for cosmetology class. Numerous lifelong friendships were made during her thirty-three years of service. In 1979, Judy had her own daughter, Wendy Rose Hawes. As a single parent with much support from family, Judy was an incredible mother. She stopped at nothing to give Wendy unconditional love, protection and a sense of gratitude no matter the circumstance. Wendy carries uncountable warm memories in her heart of times shared with her best friend. Family, friends and God were lifeblood to Judy. Any time with family was treasured and especially holidays. Whatever the occasion, her mouth-watering deviled eggs were on the table. Her youngest nieces and nephews affectionately called these “Aunt Judy’s debbiled eggs!” Judy’s other passions included reading, gardening, decorating her home and yearly trips to the beaches of The Outer Banks, North Carolina. Quiet time with God each day was essential to her and Joyce Meyer Ministries and House of Ruth are the two charities that spoke to her heart the most. Laughter was also sustenance to Judy, and her infectious sense of humor drew everyone closer. Judy is survived by her daughter, Wendy Hawes, siblings, Linda DeRamus and her husband Ronald, James Johnson, Joseph Johnson and his wife Tara and Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Heather. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends she all loved dearly. Judy touched the lives of everyone she knew with love, joy and a heart brimming with thankfulness for all her blessings. Her spirit burns brightly within us and will forever be a comfort. Family services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to House of Ruth (a charity for women and children) or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
