

William Henry Wunderlich, age 84, passed away at home on July 30, 2019. Born on December 18, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, Bill graduated from Brentwood High School in 1952 and from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management in 1956. Later in life, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University in 1972.
Bill worked in telecommunications for his entire career, first with AT&T for thirty years until 1986, and then with the U. S. Department of the Treasury until his retirement in 1996. Bill served in the U. S. Army at Fort Sam Houston from 1957 to 1959, and was recalled to active duty at Fort Chaffee in 1961 during the Berlin Wall crisis.
Bill married Mona Anne Signorino, also of Pittsburgh, on October 31, 1959. They shared life together for nearly sixty years, until Bill’s death. Together they have two children, Kenneth William (1960) and Linda Anne (1963). After living in New Jersey for three years, they moved to Fairfax, Virginia in 1966, where they resided in Mosby Woods until the present day.
Bill was actively involved in community and civic affairs, serving for many years as a volunteer with various organizations. These included the Mosby Woods Community Association, the Mosby Woods Pool Board, the Fairfax Greenspace Preservation Task Force and the Fairfax City Aging in Place Task Force. He also served the congregation at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church as a member of the congregation council, officer, usher, and volunteer.
Bill had a wide range of personal interest and hobbies. He played the piano from his youth well into his 80’s and was a jazz aficionado. He played and sang with the Falls Church Music Study Club actively until his death.
He was an avid vegetable gardener, a talented photographer, a railroad enthusiast, a model train builder, and a first-class amateur chef. He also enjoyed exercising at Fairfax Racquet Club where he made many friends.
Known for his sense of humor, he was a great storyteller and prankster. He especially loved bad puns and the comic strip “Pogo” by Walt Kelly.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers Elmer and Don.
In addition to his beloved wife Mona, he is survived by his two children, Ken (Jean) and Linda and his grandson, David. Bill is also survived by six nephews and nieces as well as other dear relatives and many good friends.
A private service will be held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax on August 8, 2019.
