

Edward P. Grindrod, age 92, formerly of Fairhaven, passed away on October 22, 2015 at the Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Retirement Community in Irvington, Virginia. He was the husband of the late Jeanne M. (Pate) Grindrod.
Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Edward and Emerencienne (Joinville) Grindrod, he lived in Fairhaven for many years before moving to Virginia in early 2015.
A graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, class of 1942, he was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II as a Shipfitter First Class aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. He was a member of the original crew of the ship, the recipient of eleven Battle Stars, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was an active member of the Men of the Blue Ghost, USS Lexington, CV-16, and the V.F.W., Tuttle Post in Acushnet.
He worked as a Watch Engineer at the former Com Electric and the former New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Company, now Eversource, of New Bedford for almost forty years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the National Association of Power Engineers.
Mr. Grindrod enjoyed theatre and was a member of the Whaling Museum and Zeiterion Theater and the South Eastern New England Theatre Organ Society. He was also a forty year patron of the College Light Opera Company of Falmouth.
He is survived by one son; Robert C. Grindrod and his wife Valerie of Kilmarnock, VA, one daughter; Reverend Joan E. Grindrod-Helmn and her husband Monty of Alnwick, England, and one grandson; Scott C. Grindrod and his wife June of Falls Church, Virginia.
Burial will take place after a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 18, followed by a brief reception. Arrangements in care of the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn. www.waring-sullivan.com
