He was a communicant of St. Josephʼs Parish, Fairhaven.
Born in Fall River, to Normand A. and Jeannette R. (Boule) Seguin, he was the eldest of
their eight children. He was educated at Sacred Heart Elementary School in New
Bedford, Msgr. Prevost High School in Fall River, earned his Bachelor of Science degree
from Boston College, and performed graduate work at Yale University, University of
Maine, Orono, Bridgewater State University and University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
In his early years, Roland was a teacher and coach. He was fluent in
French and also coached football, golf, track and basketball. His
first assignment, after college, was as a teacher and coach at St.
Michaelʼs in Arizona. Upon returning home, he was a teacher and coach at Fairhaven High
School and then Bishop Stang High School. He then joined the corporate world as a
Sales Representative and then as a Real Estate Representative for the Shell Oil
Company. He then was a Shell Oil Dealer in New Bedford, before embarking on a
35-year career in Real Estate and Promotional Product Sales for the Newton
Mfg. Company, Newton, Iowa. During his early years, he became involved in
Fairhaven Town Government and served as a Planning Board member and
Chairman, Board of Appeals member and Chairman, Board of Selectman
member and Chairman and Town Meeting member. His military career was in the
Army Reserves, where he entered as a private first class, achieved the rank of
sergeant first class, then received a direct promotion to first lieutenant from the
President, all within a 7+ year time period.
For Roland, God and family always came first.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Roy R. and his wife Margaret M. Seguin, of
Dartmouth, Attorney Suzanne J. Seguin and her husband Michael Cummings, of Mattapoisett,
Marc D. of Dartmouth and Julianne R. and her husband Timothy Murphy of Barrington, RI,
Eight grandchildren, Peter R. Seguin and fiancée Meisha, David P. Seguin, Michael J. and
Alissa Seguin, Katelyn E. Cummings, Patrick M. Cummings, Sarah J. Seguin, Maeve
J. Murphy and Quinn J. Murphy, his siblings Marguerite Burt of Florida, Jean B. Seguin of
Fairhaven, Jeanne-Therese Mendes of Fairhaven, Monique L. Ward of Bourne, and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul R. Seguin,
Anne Marie Terceira, and Pierre C. Seguin, who passed on December 9.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 9:00a.m. at St. Josephʼs
Church, 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven. Burial will be immediately after at the Riverside
Cemetery in Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, December 20,
2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Funeral Home located at 180 Washington
