Donald Philip Schopp

Donald Philip Schopp, age, 82 of Belleville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center, Swansea, IL. Donald was born on January 11, 1930 in Belleville, IL, a son to Philip and Elsie (Schneider) Schopp. Donald married Ruby (Mueller) on June 16, 1955 in Belleville, IL and she survives.

Donald was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL and Masonic Lodge #24. He had worked for Southwest Bell, Illinois Bell and AT&T as a lineman for over 30 years before retiring. Donald was a Korean War veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He loved Dixieland music, watching high school sports, working in his rose garden and he dearly loved his golden retrievers. His greatest joy was helping others and spending time with his family and dear friends.

Donald is survived by his wife, Ruby Schopp, of Belleville, IL; two sons, Keith (Kathryn) Schopp and Bruce (Kristine) Schopp; three grandchildren, Connor, Cole and Claire Schopp all of Freeburg, IL; one sister, Dorothy Bunn and his lifelong friend, Donald “Hank” Schloemann.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roslyn Junck and two brothers-n-law, William Bunn and Leslie Junck.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL or Belleville Area Humane Society.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake View Funeral Home.

Interment will be held in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
