Dorothy was raised and lived in New Athens until her graduation from high school when she moved to California. She worked briefly in Lynwood, California at Aluminum Steel of America before marrying Howard in 1947, when she returned to New Athens, Illinois. Dorothy was a dance teacher and homemaker, raising six children and taking all six children by herself to Australia in 1963 when Howard was relocated there with his job at Peabody. She was very active in her children’s lives, even starting a food program at the high school in Australia. Before returning to the United States, Dorothy and Howard traveled with all of their children around the world, creating a memory that will never be forgotten. She was a very active member at First United Presbyterian Church in Belleville, volunteering for various positions along with playing piano at area nursing facilities. She was also an avid bridge player, still playing with the ladies from high school. She loved to fish with her husband, travel, play piano and always said “If you don’t want me to go, don’t invite me.” She loved and enjoyed life to the fullest.
