Dorothy married the love of her life, Walter D. Minton, in 1947, they celebrated 70 years of life, love and marriage, until Walter D.’s passing in 2017.
Dorothy was a member of the Railroad Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of the Nile, and the Red Hat Society. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone and retired in 1992.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, shopping and playing Bingo. You could often find her painting and redecorating her home. Her sewing room was a place to gather together and will always remind us of cherished moments shared. She taught her daughter-in-law Ethel, and anyone who wanted to learn to sew. She made Cabbage Patch dolls which were enjoyed by her grandkids.
Dorothy made everyone feel welcome and at home. Out-of-town relatives and friends always wanted to stay at “Dorothy’s House”. To her grandkids, Grandma’s house was the place to be. She loved playing cards with her family, especially “Blitz”. No one left her house hungry. She could whip up a full family meal in 30 minutes and was known to make a quick hamburger or egg sandwich for anyone stopping by. Homemade cream pies were her specialty as well as tubs of Christmas cookies.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. She truly loved all her family members and cherished the time she spent with them. She was always available during times of celebration or for a needed reassuring hug.
There aren’t enough words to express how special Dorothy was. She lived a long and loving life surrounded by family. She will be missed by all who had the honor to know and love her. She will be forever held dearly in our thoughts and prayers.
