It seems like I've known Mr. Meek all my life, when in reality, it's only been since I was about 6 when Carey and I became close friends at Edgemont. He was one of the "neighborhood dads" that was a very big presence in our little kid lives. And later, during Khoury League and when he gave Carey and I rides to Assumption on his way to work, with the window cracked open (even in February) to let out the cigarette smoke while he listened to KMOX talk radio, I remember his kindness beneath his (to me) gruff exterior. He still called me "Bobby" well into my adulthood, and I secretly liked that reference to my childhood by one of the Dads of my old friends. I always admired the Meeks for staying in our Hilltop neighborhood decades after the rest of us left, for no good reason, really. Whenever I went back to visit the neighborhood, it gave me a strange sense of comfort knowing they were still there, in that house or the one next door, holding down the fort, continuing their tradition of neighborliness, no matter who lived on their street. What a great power of example Glenn and Fairy were, and I'll always be grateful for their place in my childhood, and for allowing Robin, Carey, Laurie and Anne to be a part of my life. We are so sorry to hear about the death of Glen.We are thinking of you and all are in our prayers.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I cannot say I knew or remembered him well. Only fleeting occasions when we played ball into the dark through the hot summer to the cool autumn in the "huge" field next to your grandmothers home. I do remember how kind he was to us.
