

Joseph "Matt" Matthew Nussbaumer, a resident of Shiloh, Illinois, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on August 14, 1936, Matt was a beloved, hardworking, loyal, devoted husband, and father who touched the lives of many. He married his beloved wife, Fay, on June 22, 1957. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1998.
His loving family survive him: children: Debra (Michael) Watson, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Nussbaumer, Kevin (Susan) Nussbaumer, and Steven (Jennifer) Nussbaumer; grandchildren: Dawn (Scott) Colley, Nick (Lindsay) Jones, Lana Nussbaumer, Jennifer (Aren) Springer, Michael (Devan) Nussbaumer, Ashley (Bryan) Conway, and Courtney Nussbaumer; great-grandchildren: Mackinzie, Hannah, and Grace Colley; Hunter, Wyatt, and Max Jones; Adam (Lexy) Springer, Noah, and Zoey Springer; Kolten and Addie Nussbaumer; and Cooper Conway; great-great grandchildren: Everleigh and Ella Springer. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Peskar and brothers-in-law John Humphrey and Norman (Sheryl) Humphrey. Matt was also a cousin, uncle, and great uncle to many.
In addition to his beloved wife, Fay, he was preceded in death to his parents, Cecil and Wilburta Nussbaumer; his father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Henrietta Humphrey; and in-laws, Marilyn (Edward) Warhover, Virginia Humphrey, and Ellen Humphrey.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Matt found joy in college sports, particularly Notre Dame football, and in watching Duke basketball dominate the court. He proudly cheered for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. As a dedicated sheet metal worker with Local #268, Matt exemplified a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children.
In his younger years, he was an active member of the Jaycees and thrived in team sports like softball and cork ball. Matt's legacy of love for his family, hard work, and sports inspires all who had the privilege to know him.

Honoring Matt’s wishes, there will be no public services. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Fay at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
