He was born on July 18, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Lawrence L. and Theresa M. (nee Pottmeyer) Schaltenbrand.
Shad dedicated his life to hard work, family, and the simple joys he loved most. He spent 15 years working with the Alton & Southern Railroad before following his entrepreneurial spirit and opening an accounting firm with his brothers in 1969, known today as Schaltenbrand & Schaltenbrand Accounting Service. Driven and determined, he built his business with integrity and a heart for helping others.
Beyond his professional life, he was a man of generosity and devotion. He treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and excitement in fishing, golfing, and deer hunting. Those who knew him will remember his giving nature, his love for family, and the way he embraced life fully.
In addition to his parents, Shad was preceded by three brothers: Robert Schaltenbrand, Edward Schaltenbrand, and James Schaltenbrand; grandson, Michael Lee Schaltenbrand; a sister-in-law, Mary Beth Schaltenbrand, and his dear friend, Janice Mahoney.
He is survived his three children: Lawrence “Larry” (Mary) Schaltenbrand, Jr. of Smithton, IL, Michael “Mike” (Angela) Schaltenbrand of O’Fallon, IL, and Shari (Terry) Dahm of Belleville, IL; 11 grandchildren: Larry (Lisa) Schaltenbrand III, Jarod (Elizabeth) Schaltenbrand, Dana (Darren) Mehrmann, Angela (Mike) Kern, Taylor (Brittany) Schaltenbrand, Chandler(Nick) Welby, Hannah Schaltenbrand, Nicole Lokken, Jessica Ferrario, Jeremy (Stephanie) Dahm, and Chelcie (Brian) Barrington; 20 great-grandchildren: Cole, Wyatt, Lucy, Paige, Wesley, Drew, Abby, Wade, Mallory, Cary, Ava, Noah, Camryn, Kolten, Cache, Kennedy, Ty, Olivia, Hailey, and Kinsley; brother, William (Vicki) Schaltenbrand; two sisters: Patricia (James) Kennedy, and Rose Marie (Richard) Chenault; two sisters-in-law: Judy Schaltenbrand, and Phyllis Schaltenbrand.
