

Marybeth Allan, of Edwardsville, Illinois, was born on January 15, 1946, in East St. Louis, Illinois, and passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a short but courageous battle with aggressive lung cancer.
Marybeth was a woman of quiet strength, grace, and deep devotion to her family. She retired from Madison County Transit after a long and dedicated career as a dispatcher, where she was known for her patience, reliability, and quick sense of humor. Her calm nature and steady presence made her a trusted friend and colleague to many.
She was first married to Robert N. Parker, and from that marriage came her beloved daughter, Bobbie (Timothy) Madura of Troy, Illinois. Later in life, Marybeth found lasting love and companionship with the late Robert E. Modlin, whom she married on June 30, 1991. Together they shared many happy years filled with laughter, family gatherings, and lasting memories.
Marybeth’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie (Timothy) Madura of Troy, Illinois; her granddaughters, Caitlyn (Shane) Knight-Daiss of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Makita (Michael) Trexler of Troy, Illinois; and her adored great-grandchildren, Oliver, Penelope, and Oscar.
She is also survived by her siblings, Thomas (Billie Jean) Allan, Marcia (the late Warren) Billhartz, and Edward (Annette) Allan; sister-in-laws, Sally (the late William) Allan and Mary (the late J. Terry ‘Bones’ Allan; Godchildren, Kirk (Donna) Allan and Jeana (Jim) Heyden; her nieces, Teri (Mike) Picchioldi, Dana (Jason) Anderson, Jacquline (Jonathan) Kline, Theresa Allan, and Suzanne (Allie) Allan; and her nephews, Thomas (Kim) Allan, Luke (Beth) Allan, Michael (Dana) Allan, Christopher (Kristina) Allan, Jeremy (Jennifer) Allan, and Nicholas (Nevin) Allan; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She is further survived by her stepchildren, Kathy (the late Robert) Modlin, Cathy Modlin, Debbie (the late Jim) Finch, Linda Curless, Darla (Paul) Tretter, and Jim (Jenny) Modlin, along with many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer A. and Constance E. (née Genetti) Allan; her brothers, William J. Allan and J. Terry “Bones” Allan; and her husband, Robert E. Modlin.
Marybeth was a lifelong Catholic and a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Illinois, where she found strength and comfort in her faith.
Though she never considered herself to have hobbies, Marybeth found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved to read, share stories, and spend time surrounded by friends and family, the people she loved most. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and her enthusiasm for the season was contagious. Her family lovingly celebrated Christmas many times this year, ensuring she could experience once more the warmth, beauty, and joy that the holiday always brought her.
The family is profoundly grateful to her sister-in-law, Mary Allan, who moved into the home and stood beside Marybeth with devotion, love, and tireless care. They additionally thank BJC Hospice, Tina, Button, Diane B., Diane W., Lynn, Missy, and all those who contributed to her care during her final months; their dedication, compassion, and professionalism ensured her comfort, dignity, and peace.
Family was everything to Marybeth, and her life was a testament to love given and received. Her final wish was to bless her great-grandchildren with the gift of opportunity and a foundation for their future. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marybeth Allan Scholarship fund for their education, allowing her legacy of faith, generosity, and steadfast love to continue for generations. A visitation for Marybeth will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, IL. There will be a visitation an hour prior, from 9:00 A.M.- 10:00 A.M. at the church.
Final interment will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
