

Mike was born on March 10, 1944 in East St. Louis, IL to Frank and Veronica “Ruby” (Woodcock) O’Brien. He married Charlene Reed and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2008.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, one child, and four siblings.
Surviving Mike are his children, Susan (Ronald) Gross, Shelle Piek and Michael O’Brien, Jr; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; siblings, Kathleen Heroux, Sheila (Lenny) Logan and Christina (Bruce) Schilling; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked and retired as a truck driver. He could best be described as an “equal opportunity aggravator”. He was a fun-loving man, always ready to share a good joke and a laugh with others. He enjoyed listening to oldies music and making up songs to sing, BBQ grilling, playing bolo and other yard games. Above all else, he loved being in the company of close friends and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family has entrusted Lake View Funeral Home in Fairview Heights, IL with cremation rites. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Crehan’s Irish Pub, 5500 N Belt W, Belleville, IL 62226.
Inurnment will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike’s name can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
