Mildred Virginia Goldsmith, (nee Shaffer), 100, of Freeburg passed away December 18, 2018. She was born December 2, 1918 in Campbell, MO to W.A. and Stella (nee Watson) Shaffer. She married Olen M. Goldsmith of Campbell, MO on February 19, 1936 in Clay County, Arkansas.
Mildred was a seamstress in alterations at Stix Baer & Fuller Department Store in St. Louis, MO. She also made dresses and other clothing for family and friends. She was a wonderful cook, loved gardening, and enjoyed playing games. Mildred made her home the center of family gatherings. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Fairview Height where she taught Sunday school classes and worked in Vacation Bible School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Olen M. Goldsmith; their son, Gerald Wayne Goldsmith; her parents, W.A. & Stella Shaffer; brother and sister-in-law Uyless & Grace Shaffer, sister and brother-in-law, Melba & Delmar Crawford, sister and brother-in-law Wanda & Wesley King, and son-in-law, Everett Cardwell.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Camelita Cardwell of St. Louis, MO, Ruth Ann (Dean) Jones, Nelda Reames of Freeburg, IL, Dale (Linda) Goldsmith of Smithton, IL; grandchildren, Robin (Coy) Moser, Brian (Tara) Reames, Terry (Karen) Cardwell, Linda (Tom) Barrett, Dana (Russ) Fitzgerald;
great-grandchildren, Andy Barrett, Christopher Barrett, Aaron (Lena) Moser, Tanner Reames, Elijah Fitzgerald, and Issac Fitzgerald, Devin Cardwell and two special sisters-in-law, Ruby Morris & Betty Goldsmith; along with numerous extended family and friends.
