Raymond "Jim" James Ottomeyer II, age 81, of Belleville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. and Loretta Ottomeyer, as well as his brother Robert “Bob” Ottomeyer.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Susan, and their children: Dr. Raymond “Jim” (Kerrie) Ottomeyer III, Colleen (Daniel) Schreder, and Kevin (Debra) Ottomeyer. He was a devoted grandfather to Jessica, Raymond “Jay” (Mallory) IV, Lauren, and Blake Ottomeyer, as well as Drew (Kenzie) Schreder and Brooke (Hunter) Shelton. He was also a great-grandfather to Hudson and Amelia Shelton and Callie Schreder. Jim is further survived by his siblings: Donna (Don) Parker, JoAnn (Marvin) Gustavison, and Dr. Richard (Leann) Ottomeyer, and sister-in-law Dolores Ottomeyer.
Jim’s love for life was matched only by the love he had for his beautiful bride of 61 years, with whom he shared countless adventures. Together, they explored the winding beauty of the Mississippi River, fishing, boating, and discovering a hidden cove along its path. Their spirit of adventure carried them across the country, visiting all but four states as they made a lifetime of memories and friendships along the way. I’m sure that Jim never missed an opportunity to share a story or take a bike ride with the ones he loved. Whether on two wheels or a boat, Jim embraced the outdoors with joy and curiosity, always finding peace in nature and purpose in connection.
A gathering of family and friends for Jim will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM.
