Sandra (Sandy) Mary Fix, 77, of Aviston, IL, passed away on June 21, 2025, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 25, 1948, in Highland, IL, to the late Louis (Bozo) and Marie (née Henken) Markus.
On July 12, 1968, Sandy married the love of her life, Marlin Fix, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Aviston and he survives in Aviston.
In addition to her parents, Sandy is preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond Sr (Butch) and Mildred Fix; siblings, Jim (Kathy) Markus, Bob Markus, and Roger Markus; brothers-in-law, Lyle Fix, Paul Wieter, Raymond Jr (George) Fix, Gerald Fix, and Dennis Fix; sisters-in-law, Marguerite (Maggie) (Bill) Billups, Rita Markus, and Bonnie Markus.
Along with her husband, Marlin, Sandy is survived by her son, Todd (Elaine) Fix of Lebanon; granddaughters, Nicole (Jacob) Miller of Lebanon and Natalie (fiancé Luke Stadts) Fix of O’Fallon; siblings Carol Wieter of Breese, Ivan Markus of Aviston, Dave Markus of Aviston, and Joan (Paul) Jinks of Breese; brothers-in-law Donald Fix, and Joe (Cyndi McClary) Fix; sisters-in-law Polly Markus, Darlene Goodwin, and Cheryl Berry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt, and great-aunt, her greatest joy was her family. Sandy also had many friendships throughout her life, including an amazing group of neighbors, and will be remembered with love and for the good times shared.
A hardworking and dedicated woman, Sandy had several different jobs outside of the home while also working beside her husband on the family farm in Lebanon. After 30 plus years, she retired from Precision-Stained Glass and Tuckpointing, where she worked alongside her sister, Carol, rebuilding stained glass windows.
In her free time, she took walks around town, spent hours working on craft projects with her sister-in-law, Cheryl, always made sure the hummingbirds were fed, and was a loyal Days of Our Lives fan. Above all, she cherished time with her granddaughters and other family members, spending most Sundays at the shed. Sandy was overjoyed to soon become a great-grandma and was lucky enough to be a bonus grandma to her great niece and nephew, Olivia and Reed Fix.
As Sandy put simply, “Cancer sucks!” but for the last two and half years, she put up a hard fight with a brave face and no complaints. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Olivia Aranha, the nurses and staff at Wash U and the Northwest Siteman Satellite Office in St. Louis, and Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Memorial donations may be made to Siteman Cancer, Hospice of Southern Illinois, or the family's choice.
