Susan Jean Smith

Susan Jean Smith, 66, of Belleville, IL, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL, with her family by her side.

Susan was born February 7, 1958 in East St. Louis, IL to James N. and Dorothy Jean (Patrick) Riat. She married Randy E. Smith Sr. on February 18, 1977 in Belleville, IL. He survives and resides in Belleville, IL.

Also surviving are their two children, Randy Smith II (wife, Sarah) of Millstadt, IL and Andrea Beizer (husband, Chris) of O’Fallon, IL; and her beloved grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt, Isabella and Felix.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James “Nick” Riat Jr.

Susan was a great cook who enjoyed making and sharing meals with others. Susan was an active member of Christ Church in Fairview Heights, IL.

As her children grew, Susan worked as a homemaker, devoted to her loving family. She then worked and retired from the circulation desk at the SWIC Library. More than anything, she loved her four grandchildren; they were the light of her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family forever.

A visitation for Susan will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 from 5:00 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Pastor Shane Bishop will officiate.

Final interment will be held at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.

Memorial donations in Susan’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
