Mr. Tate was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was retired from the Alton & Southern Railroad and a member of Sterling Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Otis and Nova, nee Irby, Tate, a son, Larry Tate, a daughter, Linda Reynolds, and a brother, Earl Tate.
Surviving is his wife of over 60 years, Betty Tate, nee Rigsby, a daughter Barbara (Tom) Hohn of Swansea, Illinois, three grandchildren; Melisa Wheeler, Tony (Samantha) King, and Lindsey King-Shields, six great grandchildren; Joshua, Samantha, Chase, Corbin, Ethan, and Jackson, other relatives and friends.
