John Kevin Moroney

John Kevin Moroney, age 69, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021; beloved husband of Terri for 35 years; devoted father of Allison (Matt), Kevin, and Kyle; dear brother of James (Susan), William (Mary Jo), and Madonna Brattain as well as his mother-in-law Shirley Evans, brother-in-law Jeff (Happy) Evans and sister-in-law Vicki (Dana) Owens. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Patrick, Beth (Zane) and Julie Moroney; Meghan (Will) Gorman, Molly (Buck) Marken, and Jimmy Moroney; Ryan and Marissa Brattain; Zoe, Zach, and Izzy Evans.

John was predeceased by his parents, whom he loved deeply: James and Catherine Moroney.

John was a proud member of the Class of 1970 at St. Ignatius High School and graduated from Kenyon College in 1974. He was admitted to the Cleveland Marshall College of Law and graduated with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1979. John had an illustrious legal career. Once admitted to the bar in Ohio, he served eight years as an Assistant Cuyahoga County prosecutor. He went on to serve many years as Law Director and Police Prosecutor for the City of Newburgh Heights. He was also appointed and served as a civil Magistrate Judge in Rocky River Municipal Court. Throughout, he maintained a private legal practice, and helped innumerable clients with criminal defense, personal injury, and probate matters.

Outside of work, John had a love for golf. He played for the Parkview Golf League every Thursday evening. In addition, he loved his yearly Anniversary trips to Las Vegas with Terri. She always said that you could find him either in the Sports Book or at the pool. He was a source of humor, with his witty one-liners to so many of us who had the good fortune to know and love him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1st from 4 to 8 PM at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home, 20820 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park; followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 2nd at 11:30 AM at St. Angela Merici Church, 20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park. Donations in John’s memory may be made to St. Ignatius High School.
