Mary Ellen Scott (Foley), 62, of Rocky River, Ohio died on Wednesday February 3, 2021 at the Ames House Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Mary Ellen was the proud mother of sons Ian (wife Andrea) and Avery (wife Catherine) and loving grandmother of Thomas. She is also survived by her sisters Kathleen Foley, Martha Keenan (husband Tom), and brother James (wife Elaine), nephews Riley and Daniel Keenan; Daniel and Thomas Foley, and nieces Christine Sevarns and Elizabeth Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her father Daniel E Foley, Jr., her mother Patricia (nee Tryon) and brother Daniel. Mary Ellen is also survived by the father of her children and friend, Joseph Scott.

Mary Ellen dedicated her professional career to education and countless students who benefited from her tireless efforts, guidance, and unique insights. A devout catholic, she was committed to catholic education. She worked as a science teacher at Regina High School in South Euclid. She continued her career at St. Edward High School where she was instrumental in developing the pre-engineering program. Mary Ellen later joined the faculty of St. Joseph Academy, her alma mater, where she continued to teach pre-engineering and science courses and inspired countless young women to pursue careers in science.
Born in Fairview Park, Ohio Mary Ellen had a love for learning. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1976 and attended the University of Notre Dame where she received an undergraduate degree in Chemistry in 1980 and a Masters of Science in metallurgical engineering in 1981.
She worked as an engineer for Babcock & Wilcox in Alliance, Ohio. Between work and raising her family, Mary Ellen found time to obtain her private pilot’s license with the Taylorcraft Flying Club and later became an avid boater with the Freedom Boat Club.
Mary Ellen’s favorite times were those spent gathering with family and friends. She loved to laugh and share food and wine with neighbors, friends and family.

Due to Restrictions we are limited to 25 people in the funeral home at a time. We welcome friends and relatives requesting that you do not linger giving others an opportunity to visit.
