Born in Fall River, a daughter of Carol (Carreiro) Szlanda of Fall River and stepdaughter of the late John Szlanda, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1980, she worked as a Presser for Lincoln Press for many years. Although 59 years old, she was 23 at heart. An absolute gamer, she enjoyed playing Zelda and Animal Crossing. She made sure to spoil her granddaughters in the digital world of Animal Crossing. She also initiated their love of legos. A “cat mom” to many furbabies, she will be remembered for her sarcasm and stubborn, yet loving personality. She most enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her granddaughters.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Rego and her husband Nelson of Fall River; her life time partner, Vasco Cabral of Fall River; two step-daughters, Elizabeth F. Couture and her husband Kyle of Fall River, Jessica M. Sheppard and her husband Lincoln of FL; one sister, Carlene Guinen and her husband John of VA; one brother, Christopher Alves of FL; two granddaughters, Amalia Rego and Dayde Couture both of Fall River; best friend, Stephanie Travers and her husband Mark of IA and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Charles Alves.
Her Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:30 PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter Street, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394 or consider bringing a new unwrapped toy to be displayed for the service, the family will deliver all donated toys to a local Children’s Hospital in her memory.
