Delia A. Ferreira, age 25, of Somerset, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished daughter of Fernando and Connie Ferreira of Somerset, MA.
Born in Hamilton, Bermuda, Delia spent the first 8 years of her life soaking up the sun and pink sand beaches before moving to Massachusetts with her family in 2009.
Delia was a graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in May 2022.
Delia enjoyed her clinical education at St. Annes Hospital and was excited to begin her career there as a Nurse, with a specific interest in the area of psychiatry. Additionally, she had planned to further her education and pursue a Doctor of Nurse Practitioner degree.
From a very young age Delia loved and participated in many sports including gymnastics, bowling, track, soccer, and basketball. However, she found her true passion with softball, where she competed with her school teams and various travel organizations for many years.
Outside of sports, Delia also enjoyed warm weather, beaches, country music, fishing, riding bikes, nature, shopping with mom, Saturday Dunkin’ runs with dad, travelling with her brother and a good margarita. Colt State Park in Bristol, RI was one of her favorite places, and 4th of July on the lake; her favorite holiday. Her love for Mocha, her adorable chihuahua with whom she shared 14 years and credited with helping her get through nursing school, was vivacious.
For the past three years, Delia continuously defied the odds. Her unwavering strength and determination to live—lifted by countless prayers and the steadfast support of loved ones—became a source of hope and inspiration to everyone around her. Her journey touched countless lives, and though her absence leaves a space in our hearts that can never be filled, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories we shared.
Besides her parents, Delia is survived by her adoring brother, David (Sonya) Ferreira of Fall River, MA; her high school sweetheart, Andrew Copponi of Somerset, MA; the following uncles and aunts: Jose (Lucia) Ferreira of Fall River, MA; Mary (Jose) Teves of Fall River, MA; Eddy Ferreira of Fall River, MA; Eduarda (Carlos) DeSousa of Fall River, MA; Ludres (Guilherme) Resendes of Swansea, MA. Additionally, many cousins and special friends.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 189 Essex St., Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly asked to gather at the church by 9:45 AM. The burial will take place privately.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home, Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, MA.
Light-colored attire is welcomed at all services as a tribute to Delia’s radiant presence.
