

Born in Fall River, a son of the late George Darmody Sr. and Lillian C. (Dunlop) Darmody, he had been a lifelong resident of the city.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1956, he was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served as Sergeant. He was the former Executive Director of the Fall River Industrial Commission for the City of Fall River and worked at the Fall River Herald for 37 years retiring as Sports Editor in 2003.
Mr. Darmody was the past president of the Southeastern Massachusetts Baseball Umpires Association and umpired high school baseball and refereed basketball for more than 25 years. He was secretary and treasurer of the Durfee Hall of Fame Committee and was a two time member of the Durfee Athletic Hall of Fame.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, George T. “Skip” Darmody III and his wife Gail of Somerset, Christopher P. Darmody and his wife Susan of Westport, Gregory F. Darmody of Tiverton, RI, two sisters Patricia J. Berlin of Rockville, MD, and Deborah A. Charette of Fall River, two half-brothers John T. Darmody and his wife Sari of Somerset, and Richard Darmody of Fall River, four grandchildren Lindsay, Kathryn, Evan, and Gwenyth Darmody and many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 8:00AM from the WARING-SILLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at CHERRY PLACE 178 Winter St. Fall River, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover St. Fall River. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
