Gerard P. Smith

Gerard (Gerry) P. Smith, age 74, of Fall River, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Virginia L. (Fish) Smith to whom he had been married for 33 years.

Born in Weymouth, son of the late Hugh D. and Pauline (Kelley) Smith, he spent his youth in Holbrook and moved to Fall River in 1991.

A graduate of Holbrook High School, Class of 1969, he attended Massasoit Community College and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Suffolk University in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice.

He was a part-time Police Officer for the town of Dennis and worked as a manger in the retail industry for many years. He most recently worked part time delivering Meals on Wheels for Bristol Elders.

An avid reader, he loved listening to music, watching basketball, football and NASCAR.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, David Smith and his wife Laurelle of Yarmouth; one sister Elaine Pinkham and her husband Stephen of Waquoit; his sisters -in-law Susan Stankiewicz and Pamela Smith, his niece Jennifer Stankiewicz, and nephews, Joseph, George, and Scott Smith, and Andrew Stankiewicz. He was the brother of the late Charles Smith.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Gerry’s memory. Burial will be private.
